Jump Mountain Vineyard’s Livia is a unique Italian-style red blend named after Empress Livia Drusilla Augusta, a known admirer of the Refosco grape. Sourced from grapes grown at the vineyard and complemented with Cabernet Franc from a neighboring farm, the blend typically includes northern Italian varietals like Refosco, Lagrein, and Sagrantino. The resulting wine is rustic and full-bodied, with soft tannins. The unusual smokey characteristic comes from the Lagrein grape, adding complexity to the juicy fruit flavors. Livia is a celebrated wine from this Shenandoah Valley winery, having received a gold medal at the Shenandoah Cup.
